Stephen Kowalczykowski, PhD is Distinguished Professor of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics and his research interests include: 1) molecular mechanism of genetic recombination; 2) biochemistry of DNA helicases; and 3) protein-nucleic acid interactions. Defects in recombination and other DNA repair pathways cause an increase in cancer risk and are relevant to anti-cancer therapy choices.
