Bio

Dr. David's laboratory aims to reveal fundamental features of recognition and repair of oxidative DNA damage mediated by base excision repair glycosylases. The focus is on developing chemical, enzymatic and cellular approaches for studying the MUTYH glycosylase and variants associated with an inherited form of colorectal cancer, MUTYH-associated polyposis (MAP). Similar approaches are also being used to study other glycosylases, such as the human NEIL1 glycosylase, which processes a broad array of oxidized guanines and plays a central role in coordinating base excision repair with other cellular processes.
