Mark Winey, PhD is Distinguished Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology and Dean of the College of Biological Sciences. He studies microtubule-organizing centers and cellular structures derived from microtubules, namely mitotic spindles and cilia. These structures are required for proper chromosome segregation during cell division and for proper cellular signaling and development, respectively. Tumors display numerous defects in these processes and some of those defects are exploited during tumor progression.
